Allen-Bradley GuardShieldTM Safety Light Curtains

As the newest addition to the Allen-Bradley line of safety products, the Bulletin 442L GuardShieldTM safety light curtain provides economical yet fully-featured point of operation control as well as perimeter and area access guarding. Its rugged, IP67 washdown rated aluminum housing and dip-switch selectable modes of operation allow this model to address a wider range of applications than previously possible.

Point of Operation Controls (POC)

POC Light Curtains use a non-matched pair of optic heads to create a curtain of infrared light that allows personnel frequent and easy access to point of operation hazards. These light curtains are available in 14mm and 30mm resolutions for finger and hand protection respectively. POC units can be cascaded — connected in series (host and guest) — to prevent personnel from stepping between the protective field and the guarded hazard.

Perimeter Access Controls (PAC)

PAC Light Curtains use an emitter and receiver pair to create a multi-beam barrier (1, 2, 3 or 4 beams) around robotic cells, loading machines, palletizers, etc. When the guarded perimeter is breached, hazardous machine motion stops, protecting the personnel. PAC Light Curtains can be ordered with an optional muting module.

Area Access Controls (AAC)

AAC uses single-beam emitter and receiver units to create an infrared protective barrier around a hazardous machine, e.g. robotic cells, transfer stations, palletizers and loading machines. Breakage of the beam stops the hazardous machine motion. Two-beam or multi-sided access control is attained through the use of corner mirrors.

Allen-Bradley SafeZone™ Safety Laser Scanners

The new SafeZoneTM safety laser scanner will help provide area protection within hazardous cells. This category 3 device sweeps a class 1 infrared laser beam through a 300 degree angle to detect the presence of people or objects in a protected area or to provide mobile safeguarding for automatically guided vehicles (AGVs).

Controllers and Safety Relay Interfaces

8100 and 6100 Series control units act as the safety interface for POC light curtains and also can be used for PAC or AAC perimeter and access control applications. These safety interface control modules provide increased functionality such as blanking, control reliable muting and presence sensing device initiation (PSDI).
